How To: Plumbing

“How To” Plumbing 101: While having a professional assess your plumbing issue is the most reliable course of action, we understand that you might not want to call a plumbing service for every little thing. However, sometimes things that start off small such as a leaky faucet or a clogged drain can become a big pain in your…wallet. Here are tips to know when to and when not to call a plumber:

How to prevent plumbing problems: in this section we talk about easy ways to maintain your plumbing systems in the home

Toilet Trouble 101

toilet

Recently, a customer called our emergency service in a total panic because the toilet was leaking in her home, causing a flood. Since Go Pro Plumbing & Heating’s emergency service operates 24/7, one of our expert plumbers rushed over to fix the problem. He found the bottom floor bathroom covered with water that was seeping to all of the other rooms. It turned out that the main water line was clogged, which was causing the toilet to leak.

After he stopped the toilet from leaking, he tried to remove it. Usually it is not that difficult to remove a toilet, but it was installed years ago by handyman who was not an expert in plumbing and he attached it with silicone. Silicone is too adhesive of a material, which makes it difficult to remove a toilet when there is an emergency. Our plumber had to take a knife and cut the silicone to loosen it from the floor. When he was finally able to remove it, he found the floors had rotted underneath and the parts he had to cut open were ruined.

Although our plumber was able to fix the problem, the fact that the toilet was originally installed by someone who was not a professional plumber who used silicone, made it take longer to fix the toilet and repair the floor that was ruined by the material. To avoid a situation like this, make sure you hire a qualified plumber. Go Pro Plumbing & Heating is a professional plumbing company that has a master plumber’s license and has a 24/7 emergency service hotline. Call Go Pro to be your NYC plumber today!
